Collection: Eastern Woven
Sibling-Owned | Traditional Turkish Crafts | Woven in Antioch Since 2017 | Centuries-Old Techniques Preserved
Eastern Woven was founded in 2017 by siblings Emre and Sule, who share a deep passion for preserving Turkey's handmade traditional textile crafts and bringing them to modern homes around the world. Growing up surrounded by the rich textile heritage of Turkey—where craftsmanship has been passed down through generations for centuries—they witnessed firsthand how these ancient techniques were quietly disappearing from everyday life. Determined to keep these traditions alive while supporting local artisan communities, they launched Eastern Woven to bridge the gap between Turkey's timeless artisan skills and contemporary sustainable living.
Every piece begins with peshtemals—one of the most unique treasures of Turkish culture that have served this ancient tradition for centuries. Dating back to the hammams (Turkish bath houses) where they were used for both cleansing and as social gathering essentials, these flat-woven towels are made from sustainable cotton and linen fibers and handcrafted on traditional semi-automatic looms in Antioch, Turkey. The craftsmen who create these textiles carry on a 700-year-old tradition, hand-stitching each piece using time-honored methods that require days of meticulous work. Unlike mass-produced terry cloth, peshtemals accommodate heavy usage over many years—which means less household waste—and they become softer and more absorbent with every wash, making them heirloom-quality pieces that only improve with time.
Beyond peshtemals, Eastern Woven's collection showcases other remarkable Turkish crafts including suzani fabrics—hand-embroidered textiles originating from Central Asia featuring intricate patterns of sun and moon disks, pomegranates, flowers, and vines, each symbol carrying deep cultural meaning and created using the same techniques perfected over centuries. The collection also features completely handmade yemeni shoes, traditional Turkish leather footwear that skilled craftsmen (known as "kosger") have been creating for 700 years using natural, breathable leather that conforms to your feet over time. Designed with inspiration from the Aegean and the Mediterranean, each Eastern Woven piece reflects the vibrant colors, laid-back elegance, and sun-soaked aesthetic of coastal Turkey.
Committed to sustainability and ethical production, Eastern Woven uses only the best quality natural materials—cotton, linen, silk, and leather—ensuring every piece is long-lasting and special. Their multi-use peshtemals transcend the traditional towel, doubling as beach blankets, baby covers, picnic throws, tablecloths, yoga mats, and even elegant shawls, proving that the most versatile pieces are often rooted in centuries of practical wisdom. In a world that prioritizes speed and mass production, Eastern Woven stands firmly against the tide, creating products in accordance with ethical values and preserving craftsmanship that deserves to be celebrated, honored, and woven into the fabric of modern sustainable living.
