Social Impact Business | Luxury Alpaca Textiles | Artisan-Loomed in Ecuador & Peru

Purple Nest Design was founded by Liz Tyrrell with a passion for preserving the ancient art of weaving while supporting artisan communities through fair wages. With a background in international development—including work assessing micro-enterprise programs in Ethiopia and designing financial literacy curricula for refugee women—Liz brings a deep commitment to social impact to every handloomed piece.

Working directly with small artisan groups and weaving families in the hills outside of Otavalo, Ecuador, and throughout Peru, Purple Nest Design creates luxury alpaca throws, blankets, and home textiles using time-honored techniques passed down through generations. Each piece is a collaborative work of art: male weavers use their weight and strength to pull back on alpaca yarns during the weaving process, ensuring tight, durable construction, while female artisans hand-brush the fibers repeatedly with a native Teasal plant to create an ultra-soft, lustrous finish. Every throw is then beautifully hand-finished with sewn edges.

Made from ethically sourced natural alpaca wool—celebrated for its exceptional softness, warmth, and durability—each item tells a cultural story while fitting seamlessly into the modern American home. Purple Nest Design donates 5% of profits back to the communities where artisans live, supporting projects that help entire families and villages thrive. By preserving endangered artistic traditions and providing dignified employment, Purple Nest Design proves that when artisans are paid fairly and treated with respect, whole communities can be transformed.
